The Professional Masters in Tropical Marine Ecosystems Management (PM-TMEM) Batch 2 went to Cebu for its Marine Protected Area Management and Governance (TMEM 220) class last May 11 to 23.
Class lectures were held at the University of the Philippines (UP) in Cebu-Lahug campus where resource persons and lecturers shared their expertise and experiences in Marine Protected Area (MPA) management, stakeholders’ participation, governance and law enforcement, among others.
Field interactions and on-site observations were also conducted in several MPAs in Lapu-Lapu City, Oslob and Moalboal. The students had the opportunity to exchange information and lessons learned on MPA management with the Local Government Units (LGUs), People’s Organizations (POs), women’s groups and other stakeholders.
Significant observations and recommendations during the on-site visits are currently being consolidated to give feedback to the respective LGUs and MPA management groups.
